Trout Transport is owned and run by Luke Griffiths who purchased it from Tommy Trout in 2022.

Tommy had always wanted to be in transport – while sitting in school in Leicester he used to watch trucks travelling up and down the M1 and want to be able to drive them, however back then (the old days) you had to be 21 to learn to drive LGVs. Always keen to find a solution, Tommy joined the army where you could take your truck tests at 18 so accelerated the learning process. After leaving the army he worked various jobs in the transport/haulage sector before setting up a driver agency – one of his customers was a truck rental company in Leicester which is where he first started working alongside Luke back in 2007 – providing drivers and planning knowledge to assist with deliveries to customers. 

Shortly after this, during the annual Christmas rush, Tommy noticed how much Luke was struggling with getting hold of trailers to rent to customers to cover the demands of ‘peak’ – after a few conversations with the management team Tommy came back with his first hire trailer and Trout Trailer Hire was born.

Both the supply of agency drivers and trailers led Tommy to take on a new customer – Clarke Transport (the two were introduced to each other by Luke) and before too long Tommy was not only supplying drivers and trailers but also was helping in the office covering holidays. After some time, the owners of Clarke Transport approached Tommy to see if he’d be interested in purchasing the business from them – this was completed in October 2015 and on 1st November 2015 Trout Transport Ltd started trading with Tommy as Managing Director and Luke as Transport Manager.

In the years that have followed there has been almost constant evolution at Trout Transport – our fleet has been upgraded numerous times; we’ve move to a new yard etc but by keeping the ‘family company feel’ we have managed to maintain a stable workforce who do us proud almost every day. We continue to work on some of the customers that we inherited from Clarke Transport as well as our own that we have built long-term working relationships with and plenty of newer customers at various stages of building working relationships.

In April 2021 Luke was promoted to Director of Operations and in August 2022 he bought the company from Tommy.
